Embraer delivered the 50th A-29 Super Tucano out of the 99 aircraft ordered for the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The aircraft was presented in a ceremony held on September 18, 2007, at the Company’s Gavião Peixoto plant, in Brazil. The ceremony was attended by Luiz Carlos Aguiar, Embraer Executive Vice President, Defense and Government Market; Aeronautics Commander, General Juniti Saito; and Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer President and CEO (from left to right on picture)
The Super Tucano, together with the R-99A AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning & Control) and the R-99B RS/AGS (Remote Sensoring, Air-to-Ground Surveillance) forms the aerial segment of the Amazon ntegrated Surveillance System (Sistema de Vigilância da Amazônia – SIVAM). The Super Tucano is also part of the basic and advanced training programs for FAB pilots.
Besides the 50 Super Tucano aircraft in action with the FAB, another ten Super Tucanos currently serve with the Colombian Air Force. The Super Tucano is an evolution of the Tucano basic trainer, of which around 650 are in service with 15 air forces, worldwide. The aircraft was designed to operate in various combat scenarios. It has night
vision, smart weaponry, data-link, advanced navigation and weapon aiming systems, as well as a reinforced structure for operations on rough landing fields.
