Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet Demonstration Team
|Aircraft||1 x CF-188 Hornet|
The CF-18 Demonstration Team selects a theme for each year. The 2016 theme commemorates the WWII British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) in Canada. Canada is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the BCATP and the formation of the first of the "400 block" RCAF squadrons (1941 - 2016).
The 2016 CF-18 Demonstration Hornet paint scheme is styled after the high visibility "Yellow Wings" trainers used in the BCATP, during WWII. The contrasting black and yellow paint scheme was designed by graphic artist, Jim Belliveau, and was applied by a team of RCAF technicians. According to Mr. Belliveau the black colour is intended to represent the darkness of war while the bright yellow tail vignettes are symbolic of the flame against the darkness. The aircraft also carries the names of 134 communities in Canada that had BCATP establishments. The CF-18 Hornet demo pilot for 2016 was Captain Ryan "Roid" Kean.
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) unveiled the 2017 CF-18 Demonstration jet on April 4, 2017, at 4 Wing, CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. The main colours are red and white, Canada’s traditional colours, in celebration of the Nation's sesquicentennial; the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. The colour scheme incorporates the official logo of "Canada 150". The 2017 CF-18 Demonstration pilot is Captain Matthew "Glib" Kutryk.
