Australia to Acquire Four C-17 Heavy Transports
03 Mar 2006
The Australian government has selected the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to boost its airlift capacity and give the Australian Defence Force a new Responsive Global AirLift (RGA) capability to meet its operational commitments. Four aircraft and associated equipment will be procured, a total investment of up to 2 billion Australian Dollars. The first aircraft could be delivered by the end of this year, with all aircraft being delivered by mid 2008.
Arriving on March 1, United States Air Force (USAF) C-17 Globemaster III Serial Number 55146 from the 15th Air Wing, 154th Wing based at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, visited Royal Australian Air Force Base (RAAF) Richmond for the occasion, enabling government officials and RAAF staff to take a closer look at the aircraft.
