Chile Receives First Six ex-RNLAF F-16s
08 Sep 2006
The first six of 18 ex-RNLAF F-16 MLU fighters were delivered to the Fuerza Aérea de Chile (FACh) on September 4, 2006. The aircraft arrived at their new home Cerro Moreno AB on September 7. The official hand-over ceremony took place the next day. The group consisted of three F-16AM single-seat and three F-16BM two-seat aircraft.
In February and June 2007 two more batches of six aircraft will be delivered, each consisting of four F-16AMs and two F-16BMs.
The contract for the sale was signed in December 2005. The F-16s are all upgraded under the MLU program, but were surplus to the requirements of the RNLAF.
