Chilean Navy Orders C-295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft
EADS CASA announced on October 18th, 2007, that the Chilean Navy had purchased three EADS CASA C-295 maritime surveillance aircraft with an option for another five.
The C-295 "Persuader" aircraft will be fitted with the modular EADS CASA Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS) in order to carry out the surveillance and search and rescue mission. The C-295 will replace the current fleet of five P-3ACH Orions, used in these roles.
Both the Navy, Army, as well as the Chilean Air Force, have been operating CASA C-212 aircraft since Chile became the first export customer for the C-212 in 1978. The Chilean Army also operates the C-295's smaller brother, having acquired the CN-235 in 1989.
