RAF Eurofighter Typhoon Assumes Quick Reaction Alert Role

On June 29, 2007, the Royal Air Force's Eurofighter Typhoon assumes responsibility for the southern element of the United Kingdom’s Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) air defence stance. It is the most significant milestone yet for Typhoon as it becomes established as the cornerstone of the RAF for the next 30 years.

Typhoons are now on constant readiness at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, to respond to any aircraft acting suspiciously or intruding illegally into UK air space, and will be joined by others at RAF Leuchars, Fife, Scotland, in due course, when Typhoons equip the squadrons based there.

The next major Eurofighter milestone for the RAF will be the declaration of multi-role capability in 2008.
