Tejas Light Combat Aircraft Fires First Missile

On October 25, 2007, India’s Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) fired its first missile. Tejas prototype vehicle PV-1 successfully test fired a short-range R-73 air-to-air missile at the air-to-air range off Goa coast.

The event marks the start of weapon integration trials, which are the focus of the current initial operational clearance (IOC) phase of the program. Tejas prototype vehicle PV-1, piloted by Gp Capt. N. Harish Chief Test Pilot of the National Flight Test Centre ADA, undertook the test firing at Mach 0.6 and at 7 km (23,000 feet) altitude.
