Delivery of RAAF Super Hornets Completed
21 Oct 2011
Four new Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornets joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Super Hornet fleet at RAAF Base Amberley today, completing delivery of all 24 RAAF Super Hornets.
The final four Super Hornets were welcomed by 16 other RAAF F/A-18Fs for a mass formation flypast. The 16 jet formation joined up with the new arrivals at a point off the Sunshine Coast from where they flew south from Noosa Heads down the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and then over the CBD en route to Ipswich and RAAF Amberley.
The Australian government announced plans in March 2007 to acquire 24 advanced Block II versions of the two-seat F model Super Hornet. The first five RAAF Super Hornets arrived at Amberley on March 26, 2010.
