MILAVIA MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

part of the MILAVIA Military Aviation website, www.milavia.net
INTRODUCTION
As you can see I revamped the newsletter again! Just a little, I think it is pleasing to see something different after a while, next month I will do some more little tweaks. On the website I did the same with the index and home page. You used to enter via a portal page to the home page, now I have combined those two in one. So typing in www.milavia.net in your browser takes you directly to the home page.

The portal page presented a bit of a problem, the 'enter the website' image link is not always followed by search engine robots. They prefer text links and also a lot of content on the first page. So that problem has been solved now. The other problem the website had was that search engines can probably not index the website because I work with a Marcomedia Flash menu, instead of text links. So now I have put (extra) text links on the homepage as well. Visitors without Flash can also properly visit my website now. Using certain browsers, the dropdown navigation of the aircraft directory did not work. I have replaced it with normal links now. Let me know if you prefer the dropdown lists, I will put it back on and make this an alternative.

Having done this, I decided it would be nice to add some more content on the homepage. You will now find one or two of the latest updates announced. Also I will have a 'featured' section to focus on a particular page or gallery that deserves more attention. I have done this because I have some special neat stuff as well as boring, same old, not very interesting stuff on the website. Then there is the aviation news, I will put some news stories when I have time for it and feel like it. This will just be a random pick, I am not running a news service or archive (yet).

I hope that my website will gain some more visitors now. The disadvantage of having the index page of a website like this, is that it takes longer to load. Anyway I hope you enjoy the new layout of the homepage, as well as this new newsletter, even though it has been a bit delayed!

PICTURE OF THE MONTH
The picture of the month July is one from the Royal Navy pictorial, which was recently added to the website. It shows a Lynx helicopter and a Sea King in the background during the 1991 Gulf War in close proximity to an oil well that has been set ablaze.
FINAL WORDS
Well, that's it for this month! I will be back from my holiday just in time to publish the July quiz results and announce the winner. Unfortunately, I do not think I have enough time to also prepare the newsletter in time, so that will probably arrive mid August in your mailbox. The winner will be contacted, and will be announced 1st of August on the website, as well as all the others who submitted the correct answer. Some of you already did! I like it a lot when I see regular visitors returning every month, particpating in the quiz, without me having to remind them by sending the newsletter! Thanks!

Because of a programming error, I lost some of the guestbook entries :-( If you have some spare time, please
sign it if you have not done so already. Or you may also e-mail me if you have any comments, questions or requests!

Best Regards,

Niels Hillebrand
