The Patriots Jet Team is a U.S. civilian formation display team flying six L-39 basic jet trainers. The team primarily performs displays at air shows and fly-overs at major events in the west of the country.
The first of the Patriots Jet Team aircraft were purchased in 1999 with additional L-39 jets purchased through 2002. The Patriots Jet Team’s L-39 jets were repainted and modified for use on the air show circuit with upgraded avionics, removal of excess weight, and the addition of a 30 gallon smoke oil system.
First debuting in 2003 as a two-ship team, the 2004 season saw the addition of a third aircraft, and after a successful 2005 season, the Patriots Jet Team added a fourth jet for the 2006 season. 2011 marked the introduction of two more beautiful black L-39s bringing a six-ship formation to the air show circuit.
For 2014 the Patriots Jet Team plans to perform at a dozen of events on the westcoast, subject to sponsorships. The team also announced the addition of a MiG-17 for several shows.
