The Saudi Hawks were formed in 1998 at the decree of General Abdulaziz Henaidy, the Royal Saudi Air Force chief of staff, with the backing of Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz. Training was provided by past members of the Red Arrows, with a ex-Red Arrows pilot permanently stationed with the Saudi Hawks. The team made their European debut in 2012at AirPower Zeltweg, the RNAS Yeovilton Air Day and Royal International Air Tattoo, flying six Hawk Mk.65 and Mk.65A jets with a green and white paint scheme and white, green and red smoke generators. They returned to Europe to display in Greece in 2014 and Italy in 2015, flying seven jets by this time. In the future, the Saudi Hawks will display with nine jets.
