The Swedish Air Force Historic Flight (SwAFHF) is an association dedicated to maintaining and flying various historic aircraft types that have served with the Swedish Air Force. The civilian registered aircraft are maintained and flown by the association's volunteers, with most of them having an air force background. The SwAFHF also is supported by the Swedish Air Force, Saab Aerospace, the Flygvapenmuseum, and other organisations in various ways.
The SAAB AJS 37 Viggen (37098) Gustav 52 was put on the civilian register as SE-DXN and flown by the SwAFHF for the first time on 27 March 2012 after it had been on the ground for 12 years. The AJS 37 Viggen is a slightly upgraded version of the original AJ 37, and is therefore maintained in the overall "bare" metal finish as the initial AJ 37 Viggen aircraft entered Swedish Air Force service. The SwAFHF presented the AJS 37 Viggen during the 2012 airshow seasons at multiple shows in Sweden and elsewhere in north/west Europe. After a successful first season, the association aims to have the Viggen perform at more and bigger airshows and is also working on returning a two-seat SK 37 Viggen to the air to offer passenger flights. The SwAFHF AJS 37 Viggen attended the popular RAF Waddington Airshow in 2013, as well as about a dozen other events, but 2013 still leaves the association wish to bring the Viggen to the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford, as it wasn't possible in 2013. Since returning the Viggen to the air, the association has quickly grown and now counts 1500 members.
