A little progress report on the upgrade of the website's layout.

Most main index pages (aircraft, airshows, downloads, etc) have been converted to the new layout. Most of these still need further work. It strongly depends on the contents of each section, so I will continue on other things first. The shop will be taken down. So only the news and links section remain to be done. These are also the most outdated main section of the site, with lots of buggy code. Before these are converted, I will focus my efforts on the most popular of the aircraft sections first. Needless to say they also can use some updating.

The first aircraft sections to be converted to the new layout will be all the Flanker sections. Simultaneously, I will add the Su-27BM (new Su-35) as a new section and perform updates where neccessary. After the Flankers the most recently added sections will go first, being the L-159, Su-15, JF-17, J-10 and Gripen. This has to do with the amount of code that has to be changed for it to fit the new layout. After those it's down to popularity again, with the F-22, Typhoon, MiG-29, F-16, F-15, Rafale being the main candidates, as you can see from the list at: http://www.milavia.net/about/popular.html

Meanwhile works continues on the new links directory. After the links directory goes live, the news section will be completely overhauled.

Bringing up http://www.milavia.net/about/popular.html, it's not the best list for analysis, but as you can see the Georgia-Russia conflict had quite an effect on which sections are visited more. The Su-25 has risen up, and the Su-24 and Tu-22 (should be Tu-22M of course, but what do they know) made it to the Top 50.

The new homepage is online now. After a short trial with few errors reported, I decided to replace the old index page today. With the new version some new features and sections have been introduced, please check it out.

The homepage will probably receive a few more small changes in the coming months. I am now in the process of applying the same layout to the other sections of the site. While doing this, each section will also be improved, thus it will take weeks if not months to finish. Finally the top 'Adobe Flash' menu will be redone.

Feel free to comment on the new design, and please report any errors.

After hours of hard work, I have finally launched the new air show database and calendar. Although many functions are still under development, the new version already offers more functionality than the previous version. Soon the search function will also return, as well as several other new functionalities.

To access the new calendar, click the usual links on the Air Shows index page (http://www.milavia.net/airshows/) or enter the new calendar by accessing http://www.milavia.net/airshows/calendar/ directly. The archieved calendars of previous years still rely on the old script, and also the 2008 calendar is still available through the old links for now. deprecated

Right now, I am also still redoing the editor scripts, as soon as they are done, myself and a couple of helpers will get straight back to editing the database with updated and new entries! I am still looking for additional airshow database editors, especially for non-European shows, let me know if you are interested.

Also feel free to make any suggestions for improvement, and comment on the layout. This wider layout will soon be used all over the site. Since it relies heavily on new scripting, I am not sure how it functions under older configurations, please inform me when you experience any layout issues.

Since it's 2008 already, I have started a make-over / redesign of the home page (index page - http://www.milavia.net/index.htm). I don't have the time to redo all 6000+ pages, so it will be fairly limited redesign, just aimed at the index page(s). It's a stop-gap between the current version and a entirely new version. In aircraft programme's terms it's a non-structural Mid-Life Update!

Just wanted to say that because of this work, there will be less updates and posts from me on the forum.

Feel free to make any suggestions on features or things you would like to see changed or added on the index page!
