Brazil Invests More in the A-Darter AAM
18 Feb 2006
The Brazilian Air Force is investing an additional US$ 100 million for the South African Short-range AAM missile A-Darter. US$ 52 million are already officially invested via an agreement between the DEPED (FAB Development and Research Department) and the South African Armscor of Pretoria. Two companies are involved on the A-Darter program: the Brazilian Mectron and the south African Denel Aerospace. The number of A-Darters to be acquired by FAB is still unknown, but it will become the main AAM to be used by all Brazilian fighters, principally by the F-5M. According to a Denel source, the program also includes a partnership for the development and technology transfer of the BVR missile R-Darter.
