05 Aug 2006
On August 2nd, Alenia Aerospace announced that the first C-27J Spartan destined for the Italian Air Force made its first few flights. The flight undertaken from Turin-Caselle Airport by Alenia test pilots have led to the positive conclusion of technical and functional checks. The “AMI1” – that has already obtained the type certification – will be delivered to AMI, the Italian Air Force, by the end of September.
The contract signed in June 2002 with the Italian Defence Ministry envisages the supply of 12 C-27J twin engined turboprop tactical transport aircraft for the Italian Air Force. The Italian Air Force aircraft have a built-in air-refueling probe, self-protection system and Head-up Display for both pilots.
