USS Reagan Launches First Air Missions in Support of OIF

On February 22nd, 2006, the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) launched its first air missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. F/A-18E Super Hornets assigned to VFA-115 Strike Fighter Attack Squadron were launched to drop ordnance on enemy targets.
The USS Reagan is the US Navy's newest Nimitz-class nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Commissioned in 2003, the carrier is now in the Persian Gulf on its maiden deployment. The Reagan Carrier Strike Group supports both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as other operations including Maritime Security Operations (MSO), counter-terrorism and other regional security missions.
