First Limited Series Production Tejas LCA Flies
On April 25, 2007, the first Limited Series Production Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) made its maiden flight from the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) facility at Bangalore Airport, India. The LSP-1 is the first production aircraft produced on the new HAL production line for the type, marking the start of series production of the Tejas for the Indian Air Force.
The aircraft KH2006 (LSP-1) was flown by test pilot Group Caption A.P. Singh from the Indian Air Force's Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) for 47 minutes and reached an altitude of 36,000ft (11,000m) and a maximum speed of Mach 1.1. Tejas KH2002 (TD-2) acted as chase plane for the flight.
The LCA test flight now consists of two Technology Demonstrators (TD-1 KH2001 and TD-2 KH2002), three Prototype Vehicles (PV-1 KH2003, PV-2 KH2004, PV-3 KH2005) and one Limited Series Production aircraft (LSP-1 KH2006).
