Last Six of 18 ex-RNLAF F-16 MLU Delivered to Chile
On June 3, 2007, the last batch of six former Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) F-16 fighters departed from Twenthe AB in the Netherlands to be handed over to Fuerza AƩrea de Chile (FACh) in a ceremony on June 7.
Flown by Dutch pilots, the aircraft routed via Gran Canaria and Brazil to Cerro Moreno Air Base, supported by a KDC-10 of the RNLAF.
The Netherlands sold 18 surplus F-16 MLU aircraft to Chile in December 2005. The first batch of three F-16AM single-seater and three F-16BM two-seaters were transferred in September 2006, followed by the second batch of four F-16AM and two F-16BM aircraft in April 2007. The third batch delivered now also counted four F-16AM and two F-16BM.
The FACh will operate the fighters from Cerro Moreno AB, supported by a on-site support team consisting of one pilot and nine mechanics from the Netherlands for the coming months.
