RNLAF F-16s Reach 7500 Flight Hours Over Afghanistan
On Sunday October 7th, 2007, the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16s reached the milestone of 7500 flight hours over Afghanistan. The Dutch F-16 fighterjets are deployed as part of the ISAF mission.
The F-16s have been active in Afghanistan since 2002. The aircraft are deployed for various missions, such as combat air support, reconnaissance and escorting convoys. The fighters can be called upon everywhere in Afghanistan supporting allied troops in the region. The F-16s have been called upon on numerous occasions by ground troops to stop enemy engagement.
The Netherlands has six F-16s stationed at Kandahar Airfield in the south of Afghanistan. The F-16s are part of the Air Task Force which also includes Dutch Chinook transport helicopters and Apache attack helicopters.
